Read about iCap & how it works.

Iquire, LLC is on a mission to transform the way the medical community uses images and video in daily medical practice. While many of today’s medical providers are stuck in the realm of analog imaging… every other aspect of our lives is going digital.

What I began to realize while selling endoscopic equipment was that most practices were taking pictures with video printers and fasting them to their reports with a stapler.

Customers often asked me if I could recommend a digital alternative or a more cost effective solution to the high cost of the print media and the space required to file these reports.

So I set out to find a solution for my customers and what I found was that nothing existed to meet their basic needs. The only things I did find were high end imaging systems with fancy databases, procedure scheduling and statistical data tracking. These were all features that the average practitioner would never utilize. In addition these systems started at $10,000.00 or more and required intense user training to master.

On the consumer side the solutions were much more affordable but the workflow of these systems were labor intensive to achieve the desired result making it impractical to utilize in everyday practice.

After a few years of hitting dead ends in my search for a solution I decided why not just do it myself. So I got together with a programmer/electronics engineer and together we created iCap based on interviews with potential customers.

iCap is designed to simply take pictures and video, catalog them for review later, annotate images and easily create a report with the images in order to communicate findings and recommendations.

Along the way one of the things we learned was that staff turnover is an issue for most medical specialties. We quickly realized the first challenge we faced was making our system simple to use. One of the first requirements for iCap was that we would be able to train a novice computer user to use the iCap system in 30 minutes or less.

This resulted in an icon driven, push button style interface to make using iCap as easy as an ATM machine. Pushing a button on the touch screen or using a mouse to click on the button achieves a desired result.

Taking an image is as easy as clicking the camera button.

To record video you click the video camera button. When you are finished recording the video… simply click the video button again.

To annotate an image, double click the image you want from the image review window and our annotation screen opens with the selected image for annotation.

To playback a video you captured, double click the thumbnail of the desired video in the image review window and it will launch your systems default media player and play the selected video.

One or two click access to complete an action became the standard in designing the interface for iCap.

Report writing is also just as easy.
  1. Simply choose a report template from the drop down list.
  2. Select the images you want to include in the report and click the export to report button.
iCap opens the report image transfer screen and asks you how to size and position the images on your template in Microsoft Word. After making your selection… iCap automatically resizes and inserts the images you selected into the report template.

Reviewing images is also a snap in iCap. Click the review button and select the identity you wish to review. You can sort the list by name or date making it easier to locate the identity your searching for. Once you select the desired identity all of the images and video for that identity loads in the image review window.

iCap comes as a turn key computer system or as a software solution with a USB2 capture device. The USB version is designed for you to use on your existing computer. For more information on using your own computer please view our system requirements to make sure your computer meets the system requirements at the end of this document.

Although iCap is easy to use it is also a really powerful system that integrates with Windows XP to offer a host of features built into Windows XP.

iCap can also be networked allowing you to link multiple iCap systems to a central server and/or access the images and videos from anywhere on your computer network or across the internet. You can even link the images to most electronic medical record systems. This is providing your EMR software supports file linking.

To further expand the power of iCap we also offer a network application called iCap reporter that makes viewing and working with the iCap images and videos over a network just as easy as using iCap. Using the same one click button design the iCap Reporter interface is a quick and easy to learn system that works seamlessly with iCap as well as other image capture units that utilize flash memory to store captured images. With iCap you the user creates the report templates using Microsoft Word. A report can be a simple letter with the images imbedded in it or an intricate report with form fields, drop down menus and check boxes.

We choose not to use a boilerplate report that may not necessarily meet all of our users needs. Instead we opted to give our users the freedom to create as many report templates as needed to address the specific needs of their individual practices. iCap comes with a few template examples to help you get started in designing your own custom templates.

We chose to use Microsoft Word as our report writer because most people already have it and know how to use it. Additionally Word is a very powerful tool that can be used to create a multitude of report template styles and features.

New to the latest version of iCap 3.5 is the “Send to Media” button. This button is used to easily copy your case files to a CD or Flash memory drive allowing your files to travel with you to any computer.

If you want to burn a CD from a case that was just completed or from some time in the past... All you need to do is
  1. Click the “Send to media” Button
  2. Select the identity(s) with the images you wish to burn to the CD by placing a check mark in the box next to each of the identities you wish to copy to the CD.
  3. Choose the location of the CD drive and then click copy.

Choosing “Copy” will open the Windows XP CD Writing Wizard allowing you to easily burn the CD.

Choosing a drive other then the CD and then pressing “Copy” will have a different outcome. Instead of opening the Windows XP CD Writing Wizard, iCap will copy the selected files to the drive you select. This can be any flash drive, external hard disk or network drive location that shows up as a drive letter on your system.

We hope this brief introduction shows you just how easy iCap makes it to manage and share images and video as well as create case reports and CD’s.
